The savings aren’t the panels themselves. Those costs are comparable. The difference comes almost entirely in “soft costs” — customer acquisition, labor, interconnection to the grid, and licensing.  When it comes to residential solar, in the U.S. it costs more to do; and there are more impediments, depending on your state it takes 120 to 180 days to install and integrate a solar system to the electric company’s grid. It Germany a system can  be installed, licensed, and up and running in as little as eight days! Here is recent NY Times Op-Ed written by David Crane and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
